Mothra Stewart
These cowls are worked from the bottom, up. The pattern is written to be worked flat and seamed, though the knit stitch at the start and end of every row could be eliminated and the pattern could be worked in-the-round, if preferred. Working the cowls flat makes them easier to block, but is not required.
This pattern offers charted and written-out instructions.
Sizes
White Version: 27" / 68.5 cm width at top, 36" / 91.5 cm at bottom, 19" / 48 cm height
Mauve Version: 36" / 91.5 cm width at top, 52" / 132 cm at bottom, 15" / 38 cm height
Supplies
White Version: Approximately 450 yd / 411 m of fingering weight yarn. Shown in a superwash merino.
Mauve Version: Approximately 400 yd / 366 m of fingering weight yarn. Shown in a merino/viscose blend.
Note: choice of yarn will impact the drape of the cowl and how much the cowl may be blocked out. While both samples are knit with the same weight yarn on the same needles, they have different gauges because of the differences in fiber content.
- US 4 / 3.5 mm knitting needle*
- 2 cable needles
- stitch markers (optional)
- tapestry needle
Gauge
White Version: 18 sts x 32 rows over 4" / 10 cm in Stockinette stitch after blocking
Mauve Version: 16 sts x 26 rows over 4" / 10 cm in Stockinette stitch after blocking
Note: gauge is approximated here and is not instrumental to the success of these cowls but may impact the finished size and yardage required for your piece. Yardage has been slightly over estimated to account for swatching and variation in gauge.
