This shawl is worked from the center, out to the border. The pattern increases every 6th row through in Chart B then every 4th row in Chart C.

The main pattern repeats 8 times per row. The pattern could be worked as few as 6 times per row or as many as 12 times per row to create a full circle. Eliminate the garter stitch edging if working a full circle with no split. The Set-up chart would need to be adjusted accordingly.

This shawl is shown in a DK weight yarn but the pattern is suitable for finer weight yarns as well, if a smaller shawl is desired. Choose a needle size that is suitable for that yarn weight.

The pattern is entirely charted with no row-by-row instructions.

Sizes

34" / 86.5 cm radius at farthest point after blocking.

Supplies

Approximately 1250 yd / 1143 m of DK weight yarn in a wool or wool blend with good stitch definition.

Note: Yardage is overestimated to allow for discrepancies in gauge and swatching.

  • US 6 / 4 mm circular knitting needle, at least 60" / 150 cm long*
    cable needle
    stitch markers
    tapestry needle
* Or size to obtain gauge

Gauge

20 sts x 28 rows over 4" / 10 cm in Stockinette stitch after washing and laying flat

Note: Gauge is approximated here and is not instrumental to the success of this shawl but may impact the finished size and yardage required for your piece. Yardage has been slightly overestimated to account for swatching and variation in gauge.
