Phosphene is the medical term for "seeing stars" which is what I think of when I see these circular motifs linked together with little star shapes, in between. While a triangular layout is indicated in this pattern, modular designs can be assembled in any number of configurations, from cowl, to stole, to blanket or even a table runner, you are only limited by the amount of yarn you have and the type of yarn and hook size you choose.

Motifs are charted and written out.

Sizes

Approximately 63" / 160 cm wingspan, 35" / 89 cm depth after blocking.

Supplies

1 skein of Lorna's Laces, Helen's Lace (50% silk, 50% wool) – 1250 yd / 1143 m per 4 oz / 113 g skein in color Grapevine

Note: Yardage is overestimated to allow for discrepancies in gauge and swatching.

  • US C / 2.75 mm crochet hook*
    Tapestry needle
* Or size to obtain gauge

Gauge

Each 7-round motif is approximately 7" / 18 cm after blocking

Note: Gauge is approximated here and is not instrumental to the success of this shawl but may impact the finished size and yardage required for your piece. Yardage has been slightly over estimated to account for swatching and variation in gauge.
