The shawl’s construction is based on Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Pi Shawl concept, wherein the number of stitches approximately doubles at a point that is twice as far as the last doubling of stitches. The shawl begins at the top-center point and is knit out to the border.
The stitch pattern is offered in chart form, only.

Finished size – 58" / 147 cm wingspan, 30" / 76 cm depth after blocking.
Supplies
- 700 yd / 640 m Black Trillium Fibres Silken Lace (85% Merino wool, 15% Mulberry Silk) – 1450 yd / 1326 m per 7 oz / 200 g skein, in color Pineapple
- US 6 / 4mm circular knitting needle, at least 36" / 91 cm long*
2 cable needles
Stitch markers
Tapestry needle
60 size 3 / 5.5 mm glass seed beads (optional)
Steel crochet hook size US 12 / 1 mm (to fit through holes of beads — optional)
Waste yarn for lifelines (optional but recommended)

24 sts x 32 rows over 4" / 10cm in Stockinette stitch after blocking
Note: gauge is approximated here and is not instrumental to the success of this shawl but may impact the finished size and yardage required for your piece. Yardage has been slightly over estimated to account for swatching and variation in gauge.
