The Drive Home

We had left time in our schedule to take a long leisurely and scenic drive home. We got up at the crack of 10am *yawn* to get packed and check out of the hotel. When Leo got to the counter, the man who processed the checkout pointed to Leo's pin (like the illustration to the right) and said "We're trying." He then went on to explain that he was, in fact, a republican and even he felt a need to boot the guy. You have got to love San Francisco.

We packed up the car and picked up a little sourdough bread for our trip and we were ready to go.

We had decided to take the 1 to Monterey and hoped to make it to Big Sur before sunset.

Pebble Beach

We drove for several hours, passing through some nice areas before finally getting to Monterey.

Having recalled my mother mentioning 17-Mile highway, we decided to give it a look.

Acting like the tourists we obviously are, we took lots of pictures of the lovely sights. I guess the squirrels are well fed by the visitors because we didn't need a zoom lens to get the shots you see, the little bugger just walked up and demanded food.

We were definitely hungry by this point and while we aren't golfers, the draw for good food was too strong to resist.

We weren't so sure that my braids and cargos, and Leo's old fleece with the anti-Bush sentiment would be allowed into the restaurant, but it turned out that they were happy to take our money regardless of how we were dressed.

We got there a little before 6, so we had to wait a little while in the lounge area before being seated by a window for dinner.

All I can say is "YUM!". Tar Tar Two ways for an appetizer and Filet Mignon with Blue Cheese, Watercrest and Tomatoes for the main course. If they had given us more I would have eaten it until I popped.

Our meal ended just as the sun was setting and we took a brief walk to enjoy it, before heading back to the car.

Since the sun had nearly set by the time we got going again, we decided to make a bee line for home.

We arrived home 15 hours after leaving our hotel, groggy but no worse for the wear.
